Minimally Invasive Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery
A large, state-of-the-art laparoscopic surgery suite, completed in February 2007, creates the optimal operating environment for surgeons, staff and, most importantly, patients. With minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, incisions are smaller, the patient's length of stay is reduced, infection rates are reduced, and many surgeries can be done on an outpatient basis, rather than as an inpatient. Recovery times are usually shorter, meaning a quicker return to work or other normal daily activities.
The suite features high-definition cameras and screens, the latest hemodynamic monitoring equipment, Xenon lighting and access to digital images via the new Picture Archive Communication System (PACS). Significant investment has also been made in instruments used in minimally invasive procedures.
Minimally invasive procedures available at OSF Saint James include gall bladder removal, appendix removal, hernia repair and more.
