OSF Saint James Announces 3rd Quarter AIM Recipient
OSF Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center recently announced the 3rd quarter Achievers In Mission (A.I.M.) for Excellence Award recipient for 2013. Irene Mertes, who is a Unit Support Representative in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), has been an employee for 18 years and was selected for this honor due to her many wonderful and caring qualities, some of which were mentioned specifically as:
- “The kindest, caring person who makes a patient like me, who I know is always grumpy, feel completely at ease. Irene always made me feel very important.”
- Irene is always willing to go that extra mile.
- Irene is a huge asset to the department and great to work with.
Irene’s Director, Gloria Prince, stated, “Irene comes in extra to help out during busy times on the nursing floors. She never complains about special assignments and goes above and beyond for her patients. Irene is a great asset to the OSF Saint James family and a very worthy candidate for the A.I.M. Award.”
Her co-workers say, “Irene is a pleasant, caring lady who always wears a smile and has compassion for her peers and patients. She always goes out of her way to do the ‘extras’, like helping to transport patients. When the nurses are busy, she will get our lunches. When we are busy in the Unit, Irene will sit with a troubled patient and listen/talk to them so we can complete necessary work. Irene is a GEM and second to none! She is the face of OSF and one of the best representatives we’ve had!”
With this honor Irene received a framed certificate of appreciation, a monetary amount, reception in her department, a corsage and a special parking place for the quarter. Her name and picture were added to the A.I.M. for Excellence plaque located in the lobby.
Irene and her husband Will reside in Ransom.
