OSF Saint James Auxiliary Makes Donation to H.O.S.A. Program
OSF Saint James - John W. Albrecht Medical Center Auxiliary recently donated $3500 to support the development of the Health Occupations Students of America (H.O.S.A.) program at the Livingston Area Career Center.
OSF Saint James Auxiliary and OSF Saint James Foundation partner with the school’s H.O.S.A. program and provide financial assistance for qualified students, beginning or continuing their education in the field of health care. Funds are raised through the Auxiliary’s medical center gift shop, bazaars, bake sales and other fundraisers. All proceeds from this Spring’s Evening in the Tropics and Riviera Get-Away Raffle, to be held April 10th at the Pontiac Elks Club, will go toward education assistance.
H.O.S.A. is a national student-led organization for future health care workers. The mission of H.O.S.A. is to promote career opportunities in health care, enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care and help students meet the needs of the health care community. By supporting the local H.O.S.A. program, the OSF Saint James Auxiliary attracts high school youth to investigate the field of health care. The Health Care Careers Education Assistance Program, sponsored by the Auxiliary, encourages local students to enter fulfilling careers in health care.
Additionally, OSF Saint James and the Auxiliary proactively address the national health care worker shortage by providing a career path for students. The medical center established special volunteer service areas for H.O.S.A. students, so they can be exposed to the health care environment at OSF Saint James. This partnership will serve as a pipeline for future health care workers to return to their local communities and OSF Saint James - John W. Albrecht Medical Center.
“We’re very happy to support the H.O.S.A. program and students --- both financially and educationally,” says David Ochs, President and Chief Executive Officer of OSF Saint James. “To support these talented and motivated young people in their education, then see them come back to our community and take care of the sick and injured at OSF Saint James or in one of our medical group offices, reminds us daily of what a worthwhile investment it is. The L.A.C.C. and Ruth Ann Rodino continue to do a wonderful job with the H.O.S.A. program.”
