OSF Saint James Annual Golf Outing

The annual OSF Saint James Foundation EMS Golf Classic will be held on Monday, June 7th, at Pontiac Elks Country Club, Pontiac, Illinois. The support of the golf outing results in the saving of lives; equipping and training Emergency Medical personnel with the necessary training and equipment needed to respond to sudden illness, accidents or injuries.

Items and services provided through sponsorships in 2009 resulted in funding for the following: defibrillators, patient stretchers, pagers, EMS Safety Gear for crash responses, diagnostic tools, such as blood pressure cuffs and stethoscopes, bandages, spinal immobilization devices for injured patients, training supplies and response bags to hold lifesaving equipment. Additionally, gifts of support assisted in the training of 55 individuals and enabled 99 pieces of life-saving equipment to be purchased for local ambulances and fire departments. Most importantly, EMS services provided 5,000 emergency responses to calls for help in 2009.

OSF Saint James - John W. Albrecht Medical Center is a State of Illinois-designated "resource hospital." With that status, it is responsible for overseeing the recruitment, training and education of the area Emergency Medical Services, including its 24 EMS affiliates, with the needed personnel and all aspects of care delivered by them. Support of the EMS Golf Classic supplies the needed training, equipment and supplies for the rescue squads and necessary maintenance of ambulances.

While we are living in a time of economic uncertainty, the residents and businesses in Livingston County need to be secure in the knowledge that emergency help is available when dialing 911. With your help, we can confidently make that promise and provide a measure of security for communities.

Many businesses and organizations insure financial support of this important event and it our sincere hope we can continue to provide this vital service. If you are considering a donation, please be assured the gift you give will be applied to training others to save lives. Your support is invaluable in making sure these critical resources are accessible to all, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

Evening in the Tropics

We are aware all hospitals in our country are challenged by a serious nursing and medical professional shortage. Due to an aging population and 77 million baby boomers who are approaching retirement age, the shortage of medical professionals, especially nurses, may exceed one million by 2020. The OSF Saint James Auxiliary and OSF Saint James - John W. Albrecht Medical Center has moved aggressively to protect the health care interest of the 40,000 people OSF Saint James is privileged to serve by introducing several innovative programs.

One in particular, is the Healthcare Career Educational Assistance Program, established by the OSF Saint James Auxiliary in 2006. The program assists students pursuing health care careers to attain their degrees by providing the needed financial assistance. These professionals then return to Livingston County to serve our community through the medical center or at local family medical clinics. Through the proceeds of the Evening in the Tropics 2009, the Auxiliary was able to award $34,500 in education assistance to eight (8) persons pursuing nursing, radiologic technology, physical therapy, nuclear medicine and clinical laboratory. These students will return to OSF to give care to the residents of Livingston County.

The OSF Saint James Auxiliary and OSF Saint James Foundation are proud to be able to sponsor Evening in the Tropics, April 10th at 6:00 p.m. at the Pontiac Elks Country Club. The evening will include dinner, drinks, silent auction, 50/50 raffles, and a DJ. The evening provides supporters, staff and volunteers a chance to relax and have fun for a cause that benefits both the medical center and Livingston County residents. The event will help provide the necessary funding needed to assure the same high-level quality of care with nurses and health care professionals that are the hallmark of OSF Saint James.

Tickets for the Evening in the Tropics are $25.00 each. An all inclusive trip for two to the Riviera Maya or $2,000 cash raffle is also being held. The tickets are one (1) for $10.00 or three (3) for $20.00.
