QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT YOUR BREAST HEALTH

As women, we often are involved in helping others make healthcare decisions – our parents, our children, our spouses, friends and family. But too often, we ignore our own situation. For instance, when was the last time you had a mammogram? If you are 40 years of age or older and it’s been more than a year since you’ve had one, it’s time to take care of yourself and schedule it.

A
t OSF Saint James, we’ll walk you through the whole process from the screening mammogram through any potential follow-up testing. Not everyone needs additional testing. But if you do, be assured that it’s all available at OSF Saint James. Our new state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment -- the same technology that is found at larger medical centers and specialized breast health centers. And just like the larger centers, we have physicians that specialize in breast health. In fact, the OSF Saint James general surgeon who performs definitive surgical care was trained by surgeons at one of the largest breast cancer centers in Central Illinois.

But there’s something extra that you’ll find at OSF Saint James that you rarely find at many of the larger specialized centers. We take the time to hold your hand. Whether you fear the discomfort in having a mammogram or fear the news of abnormal results, we are here to help ease your fears. We won’t let you stand alone.

We walk you through each step, ease each fear and answer each question along the way in the screening and diagnostic process. If treatment is necessary, we’ll help you find the one that’s right for you. After all, we’ve come to know you as a friend. We’ll hold your hand.

Our staff of highly qualified professionals looks out for your best interests. We work closely with all physicians and surgeons. It’s your choice to use us for all of your breast health services. And, it’s our privilege to serve you. If your physician has questions about your particular situation, our services or our staff, we encourage you to have him or her contact our Outpatient Services Department at 815-842-4932. We work as a team and would welcome your physician’s involvement as a member of your healthcare team.
